11 11 3. Centre back: Winston Reid (West Ham United) – The New Zealand international put in a superb performance at Old Trafford, frustrating Manchester United who struggled to create any opening on goal. 11 1. Goalkeeper: Artur Boruc (Bournemouth) – to find out who else makes the Prem team of the weekend, click the arrow above – Jose Mourinho’s men are the shadow of the team they were in their title-winning campaign, but credit must be given to newly-promoted Bournemouth, and in particular Boruc, for earning a deserved clean sheet against the Blues in a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge. 11 6. Right midfield: Xherdan Shaqiri (Stoke City) – It’s about time Shaqiri turned up at the Britannia Stadium. The Switzerland international hasn’t quite got his career off to the blistering start many may have expected, but he proved a nightmare for Manchester City, setting up both of Arnautovic’s goals. 11 7. Centre midfield: Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) – With Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla injured, Ramsey, who has played largely on the right wing, may be given a run in the centre of the park. Wenger opted for just this against Sunderland, and the Welshman thrived. 8. Left midfield: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City) – Since the start of the season, Jamie Vardy has been hogging the limelight for the Foxes, but their victory over Swansea City was all about Mahrez. He became the first Algerian to score a Premier League hat-trick, and there could be plenty more where this came from. 11 11 2. Right back: Adam Smith (Bournemouth) – The former England Under-21 international’s performances have slipped under the radar this season, but he is slowly emerging as one of the most exciting players in his position. It was another impressive weekend for Smith, who wasn’t intimidated by his superstar opponents. 11 It was another weekend of shock results in the Premier League. The big-guns of England’s top flight all failed to excite their loyal fans, with Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United disappointing to sum up what has been a wholly unpredictable season.Once again, in what has become a familiar sight this campaign, Leicester City revelled in victory to go two points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the table. But which players impressed the most over the weekend?Find out our chosen XI by clicking the yellow arrow above, right. 11 10. Striker: Odion Ighalo (Watford) – Ighalo has been superb for the Hornets this season, with his form key to their position in the top half of the table. Norwich City’s Sebastien Bassong couldn’t cope with the striker, who added to his tally to make it nine Premier League goals so far this term. 11 9. Attacking midfield: Georginio Wijnaldum (Newcastle United) – Along with Moussa Sissoko, Wijnaldum put in one of his best performances in a Newcastle shirt, with Liverpool left stunned at St James’ Park by his two strikes nestling in the back of the net to seal three crucial points for the Magpies. 11 4. Centre back: Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City) – Shawcross isn’t everyone’s favourite player, but he is key to the Potters’ formidable defensive record. Mark Hughes’ men kept out title-challengers Manchester City with ease, and the club are yet to concede a Premier League goal with their captain on the field this season. 5. Left back: Aaron Cresswell (West Ham United) – Cresswell hasn’t quite lit up the Premier League as he did last season, but he looks to be returning to top form. The defender put in an excellent performance against the Red Devils at both ends of the pitch. 11. Striker: Marko Arnautovic (Stoke City) – The only disappointment from Arnautovic’s performance is that he didn’t grab a hat-trick. The Austrian should have scored more than the two goals against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, in what was his finest performance for the club. read more
