first_imgDear Jeff, Lynne and all involved in my residency at Arcosanti,I have just returned to my home in the San Juan Islands, filled with deep appreciation to you all for making these past few days among the most memorable ever for me.[photo: Daga Suchon, violin, Morten Loridsen and Sally Gebler, dance]To each of you–conductors, singers, instrumentalists, dancer, photographer, the many generous patrons and promoters, Shining Night screeners, art gallery and concert co-ordinators—I thank you for your artistry and dedication to my music. You gave your audiences and me such a special gift that will be long remembered. And of course my stay at Arcosanti and my visit to Cosanti opened my mind to the genius of Paolo Soleri. I came home not only with the beautiful bell presented to me by Jeff but many others I could not resist at the gallery shop–all of which will be adorning my homes in the islands as a constant reminder to my residency.[photo: Morten Loridsen receives one of the famous “Minds for History” bells as a special recognition]In addition to the wonderful concerts I savored very much the opportunity to speak at the choral workshop (what fabulous performances there by Dr. Copley and the NAU choir!) and at the gallery in Scottsdale.  As I’m sure you realized, I feel very strongly and deeply about numerous things that I was able to discuss in some depth in my talks and in the documentary film. I hope you all came away from this experience enriched in some way through my music, the poetry I’ve set and my words.[photo: At the end of the evening all of the choirs gathered on and round the stage, like 220 people, and sang and were joined by the audience for “For the Beauty of the Earth”]I send each of you my heartfelt gratitude for these most memorable days spent at Arcosanti/Scottsdale and trust that our paths will cross again.Sincerely,Morten LauridsenDistinguished Professor of Composition, USC Thornton School of MusicNEA-Designated “American Choral Master”Honorary Artistic President, INTERKULTUR/World Choir GamesRecipient, 2007 National Medal of September 25, 2015We received a letter from Morten Lauridsen, also some wonderful photos from Alison Steier. Many thanks to Alison Steier for sharing all of the photos in this post with us.Here we see Morten Lauridsen on piano and Jeff Stein.last_img read more
