first_imgNew Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) As a child, storyteller Sudha Murty had several questions in her mind about the tales related to epics and now she has come out with a book retelling stories of mythology in her unique style and satisfying her curiosity in a way.”The Man from the Egg: Unusual Tales about the Trinity” answers many of these questions like why do snakes have a forked tongue? Do gods cheat? Or why does Shiva sport a crescent moon on his head?”During my younger days, we didnt have digital media or electronic gadgets the way we do now. So the best part of my day was the one I spent either in listening to stories from my elders or reading them,” Murty says.”These stories were often based on our epics and hence, did not always follow the logic of real life. So I perpetually had questions on the whys and hows about the stories? sequence of events. However, no one could completely satisfy my curiosity or withstand my endless questioning,” she adds. This curiosity followed her into adulthood and culminated in this book, published by Puffin, for her young readers.”The gods that form the Trinity are both unrelated and related in our epics. They and their vehicles fascinated me infinitely. My hope is that this book answers at least some of the same innocent questions that I also wondered about as a child,” Murty says.”The Man from the Egg: Unusual Tales about the Trinity” is the second book of Murtys mythology series and features some of the unheard of stories about Hinduism?s trinity. The first book in the series was “The Serpents Revenge: Unusual Tales from the Mahabharata”.advertisementIn Hinduism, the trinity of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu is the omnipresent trio responsible for the survival of the human race and the world.According to the publisher, each story in the book seeks to take the reader back to a magical time when people could teleport, animals could fly and reincarnation was simply a fact of life.
